[Verse 1]
I be reading books—you already knew that.
New book come out—I be flippin’ through that.
Well, not all—I ain’t read 50 Shades of Greeeeey—
I’on’t f#!kin’ play.

Nonfiction—tellin’ you the truth.
Real old copy of Alex Haley’s Roots,
Márquez—One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Don’t talk while I’m reading—that’s kinda rude.

How ya read? How ya read? How ya read?
Recliner way back, no TV,
even take notes; annotate when I feel like.
Don’t really do the e-Readers, they don’t feel right.

Gettin’ knowledge, I’ll holla whenever that stops.
Downloadin’ scholarly articles to my laptop.
Me & Preme—Bookclub—readin’ James Baldwin.
Spare time: Critical Thinking & Problem Solving.
Online literary quiz, yeah, I took it.
I read for the fun, you n!&&@s readin’ for Book It!
History, Mysteries, not too much Romance.
Sometimes one, but usually use both hands.

That’s how you feel? Man, that’s really how you feel?
Readin’ every day ’cause it helps me acquire skills.
I mean, maybe it won’t; then again, maybe it will.
I can almost guarantee you that it will.
Real n!&&@, what’s up?

[Hook]
It ain’t even hard. I do it to get smart..
“Already Read That”—that’s the motto, n!&&@—A.R.T.
and I’m ’bout it e’ryday, e’ryday, e’ryday.
You don’t see it on a stage, so you know it ain’t a play.
E’ryday, e’ryday, f#!k what anybody say.
Can’t see ’em ’cause the books up in the way.
Real N!&&@, what’s up?

[Verse 2]
Once—
Upon a time…Happily ever after…
Next chapter.
Shakespeare and the Brits are the s#!t!
Read Lolita, it really was kinda sick!
I just figured he did it ’cause he was Russian.
(Said it that way so I could rhyme it wit’ Pushkin).

Naw really—I really do be readin’
books in the diner with me, even while I’m eatin’.
Even when I’m windin’ down later in the evenin’.
Ex-girlfriend said it felt like I was cheatin’.

(Ha!) And she hated that s#!t!
B-O-O…add a K to that s#!t!
Uncle Tom’s Cabin—Mastered the story.
One Gallant Rush is the book that inspired Glory.

I’ll be honest with you, Gatsby bored me.
It’s a good book; I figure it wasn’t for me.
Never read Warmth of Other Suns,
but I plan to when the other’s done.
“Oh. My. God. Would you. Look at. Those. Books!”

(Dilla!)

[Hook]
It ain’t even hard. I do it to get smart.
